Peter Donnelly is an Irish picture book author and illustrator.
Since his best selling debut The President’s Glasses (2017) Peter has sold up to 100,000 books and continued to create award winning titles for children in Ireland, the UK and the USA.
His much loved President series (Gill books) won the An Post Specsavers Book of the Year Award (jnr) in 2018 and 2023.
His picture books The Dead Zoo (2020) and The Great Discovery (2024) (Gill books) have both been shortlisted for the Children's Book of the Year as well as his gentle ode to nature Up On The Mountain (2021).
In 2023 Peter created Little Wolf (Hachette UK) which was included in The Irish Independent and Dubray's Best Books of the Year. BookTrust described it as 'Beautiful, heartfelt and lyrical...a perfect bedtime story.'
His Irish language book Jeaic agus Lulu (Leabhar Breac) was shortlisted for the 2014 Gradam Réics Carló, the Young People’s Book of the Year Award.
Peter has also collaborated with other children’s authors such as Kim Zachman, Katie Daynes,
Alan Titley, Maire Ni Ghallchobhair and Laureate na nÓg, Áine Ní Ghlinn.
His picture books have been translated into French and Finnish.
